‘Aye Meray Pakistan’; Emerging from Jazz’s National Song Competition to Becoming the New Pakistani National Song

Hoisted Flags, decorated houses and the beautiful faint voices of patriotic music, is what the month of August brings along with itself. The month surely is incomplete without patriotic music and songs, the country since its foundation have had the most beautiful national songs. From the likes of ‘Ye Watan Tumhara Hai’ by Mehdi Hasan to ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ by Junaid Jamshed, patriotic songs have always been celebrated by the people of Pakistan.

This year Pakistan celebrated its 75th Independence, with it Pakistan’s leading mobile operator Jazz also reaching a figure of over 75 million customers. Having been blessed by the country and its land, Jazz decided to give back a small gift and that was Jazz’s National Song Competition.

Keeping in mind the hidden and underrepresented talent of Pakistan, Jazz made an announcement to all musicians in Pakistan telling them to participate in the competition to find a new national song for Pakistan. The contest went on for quite a while and budding musicians all over the country began preparing their songs for the competition.

The judge’s panel given the job to select and finalize one entry for the competition comprised some of Pakistan’s most well-known musicians such as Ali Azmat, Faisal Kapadia, Ali Hamza, Arshad Mehmood and Hadiqa Kiani. With talented contestants and exceptional songs, the competition was surely a blast and treat to viewers, but it was equally difficult to judge.

However, after several tough discussions and decisions, the judges selected one winner and that was Hassan Bin Tariq from Kashmir, who came up with ‘Aye Meray Pakistan’. Hassan’s song impressed the judges and audience since it was a national song in the truest sense.

The song includes everything from a beautiful description of the different places of Pakistan, the struggle behind its freedom and most importantly a beautiful chorus that has found its way into the heart of every Pakistani.

After Hassan won the competition, he was awarded a chance to shoot a professional music video for his song, and the video turned out as good as Hassan’s song. With amazing cinematography and concepts, the video itself is a great showcase of emotions.

Once completed, Hassan’s song became an instant hit and gained a lot of popularity, Major media channels, mainstream platforms and even the government actively supported the song. The song got a special chance to be featured at the national flag hoisting ceremony on the 14th of August by the Government of Pakistan. Commenting on the release and success of his song, Hassan said that he is very happy about his production becoming a national song, and thanked Jazz for the amazing opportunity.
