Twitter Deletes Fake Accounts, Celebrities Lose Followers

After Twitter renewed its security policies, a huge crackdown took place in which many fake accounts were suspended. The crackdown caused many celebrities to lose millions of followers. The most-followed celebrity on Twitter, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga lost about 2.5 millions of followers while Barack Obama lost 2.1 million.
Twitter said that the decision was taken due to their “ongoing and global effort to build trust” with their users. The new measures mean that any user whose account is locked for unusual activity – such as being blocked or sending unusual volumes of Tweets – and who did not respond to a prompt to verify their identity would be excluded from Twitter follower counts.
Twitter itself felt the effects of the situation since they lost a whopping number of 7.7 million in followers.
