Telefilm Based on Zainab Rape Case in the Works
A local channel of Pakistan as announced that they will be making a short telefilm based on the Zainab Rape case that recently flooded the nation with shock, anger and despair. Zainab was an 8 year old girl who lived in Kasur, which was apparently the hub of child pornography criminals, that was kidnapped, raped and then brutally killed.
Zainab had not been the first victim of the heinous crime committed by Imran who was identified and arrested after being identified through CCTV footage and DNA testing. The case had not only highlighted the disgusting rape culture of the country but also the negligence of the society in not being able to protect our young ones.
The channel has decided to portray the events that took place in the tragic killing of the innocent child but also stress the point of how it wasn’t just the killer who murdered Zainab but we as a society failed to protect and save her. Hopefully, the movie will do justice to the sensitive topic and help in spreading awareness of how important it is to educate ourselves and our children against the cruel world. We need to prepare our children accordingly and also make sure we stop breeding such criminals that are still lurking in our society.
Suhail Sameer is set to play Imran while Hamna Amir will be playing the role of Zainab, with playwright Umera Ahmed writing the script with stars such as Saba Faisal and Irfan Khoosat part of the cast.
