Tahera Rahman is The First Hijab Wearing TV Reporter in America
Tahera Rehman used to work only as a producer for WHBF in Iowa, United States. She has been wearing her hijab since she was 12 years old, inspired by her mother. The Muslim-American always wanted to be on camera, reporting and recently she made the record of being the first hijab wearing tv reporter in US history. That is a huge accomplishment and promises progress for Muslims living in US.
Mike Mickle who is the news director at WHBF said that Tahera deserved the position not just for the accolade but also due to her hard work and passion. Speaking about being a hijab wearing woman living in America, she said, “I have a lot of family members who do not wear a head scarf, but my mom wears one and a couple of my aunts also do. We are taught that in Islam, it is a choice.”
The 27 year old has received a lot of support and love from people worldwide, everyone appreciating her breaking the glass ceiling and inspiring other Muslim women who want to follow their dreams and people tell them their hijab is a blockage for them. You can still succeed in life and reach the highest level while being a devout hijab wearing Muslim woman as they do not contradict each other.
