Stars of ‘Grease’ Reunite for Film’s 40th Anniversary

The 1978 classic musical Grease just celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science with the two main leads in attendance.
The two co-stars John Travolta, who played Danny Zuko, and Olivia Newton-John, who played Sandy Olsson, reunited and seemed happy to celebrate the 40 year success of what is considered the best musical of all time. Travolta talked about how he helped cast Olivia for the role, “So when I had the privilege to have input on the casting, I said, ‘There is no other person in the universe other than Olivia Newton-John to play Sandy. You must cast her.’ So I held tight, didn’t I, and I got my way.”
While Olivia wasn’t at first sure about doing the movie, Travolta later convinced her. “They sent John to meet me and who could say no, right? This gorgeous guy walks up my driveway, these bright blue eyes, and he was so sweet and melted me and he talked about it.”
They were also joined by the director Randal Kleiser, other cast mates such as Didi Conn, who played Frenchie, and Barry Pearl, who played Doody.
