Stars who left us in 2017
1. Aamir Zaki
Pakistan’s well known famous guitarist and composer Aamir Zaki, died due to heart failure on 2 June 2017. He was 49. He had been suffering from prolonged illness for quite some time.
If we talk about his career, he was first discovered by musician Alamgir when he was aged 16. Zaki toured extensively with Alamgir, playing a ‘Flying V’ guitar that he built himself. Zaki was known to make his own guitars through his career. Aamir Zaki’s debut album, Signature, was released in 1994 and it became quite a hit. He was awarded a Soundcraft Gold Disc for the album, which carried the mega-hit ‘Mera Pyaar’. He will be remembered as one of the finest jazz, blues and rock’n’roll guitar players to have come out of Pakistan.
Raja Gidh’ author Bano Qudsia, who was an eminent Urdu and Punjabi writer, passed away on February 4, 2017 in Lahore after protracted illness. She was 88. She was born in 1928 in Ferozpur, Punjab, British India. She migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India.
Bano Qudsia is one of the most renowned female writer of Pakistan. Most famously known for her master piece novel “Raja Gidh”, Bano Qudsia has more then 2 dozen of literary novels, short story collections and Dramas to her credit. She was also the brains behind many of PTV’s most-popular television plays, out of which Aadhi Baat became a classic.
3. Om Puri
Om Puri is an Indian actor who has appeared in both mainstream Indian films and art films. His credits also include appearances in British and American films. He has received an honorary OBE. Indian actor Om Puri has passed away after a massive heart attack on 6 January 2017. He was 66. Puri was a veteran of Bollywood cinema and also appeared in Pakistani film Actor In Law last year probably his last film. He visited Pakistan frequently, being an ardent supporter of Pak-India cultural collaborations and was a regular fixture on the film and literary festival circuit in Pakistan.
4. Chester Bennington
The tragic, unexpected death of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington left everyone numb. Chester was found hanged on July 20 2017, when his body was discovered in his Los Angeles home. The Linkin Park frontman had battled depression and alcoholism throughout his life and attended rehab in 2006. Chester Charles Bennington was an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He was best known as the lead singer for the rock band Linkin Park, and also served as the frontman for Dead by Sunrise and Stone Temple Pilots. At 15 years old he played in a band called “Sean Dowdell and Friends” in which he was the lead singer. The only existing evidence of this band is a three-song tape that includes “Painted Pictures”, “Kill The Flies” and “God’s Afraid”. He was 41 when died.
Actress Nusrat Ara, famously known for her character of ‘Bil Batori’ in popular children drama series of 1993 ‘Ainak Wala Jin’ passed away in Lahore on Oct 13 2017. She died at the age of 65. Life took a turn for the worse once Ainak Wala Jinn ended, forcing her into unemployment and poverty. Decades later, Nusrat is still struggling. To make matters worse, she has developed depression and related mental disorders over the course of time. She gave us the immense memories from our childhood with her devastating character.
