The Queen’s Surprise Appearance at London Fashion Week
The start of London Fashion Week has been full of usual celebrity sightings and fashion’s top moments, but the moment that topped them all was Queen Elizabeth II’s surprise appearance at front row of Richard Quinn’s show. Her Majesty does not go to fashion events as such so her appearance at the show shocked everyone in attendance.
She sat front row, of course, along with British Fashion Council’s chief executive Caroline Rush, Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and her dressmaker Angela Kelly. The Queen wore an elegant but simple blue skirt suit, black gloves, sensible shoes with a black handbag. She cracked a few jokes with Wintour, and seemed to have a pretty good time watching the show that had taken inspiration from her Balmoral fashion.
The real reason for her appearance, however, was the inaugural award she presented to Quinn. The Queen Elizabeth II award for British design was organized by Angela Kelly, the Queen’s dressmaker, and the British Fashion Council to appreciate British designers for their craftsmanship and the work they do for the fashion industry. On receiving the royal honor, Quinn said that he thought it felt surreal. He stated, “I definitely think she is a fashion icon.”
