In the wake of the #MeToo movement, many men and women have come out to speak up about their experiences of sexual harassment. Celebrities and stars all over the world have used the platform to talk about their experiences too. The latest scandal however involves one of our own, singer Meesha Shafi who tweeted a picture on twitter talking about how she was harassed by none other than actor/singer Ali Zafar.

Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. “I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar.”

Ali Zafar is no stranger to making headlines but they are usually about his songs or movies doing well in Pakistan or internationally. He is widely loved and respected by the people of Pakistan, and has even amassed fame world over. Which is why it came as a shock to everyone when Shafi posted the experience on twitter. She talks abut how she has worked with Zafar for a long time and felt betrayed by his actions. The note says that Zafar harassed the singer on multiple occasions and physically. The mother of two mentions how she has always wanted to use her voice for not only others but the rights of women as well. “It has been an extremely traumatic experience for me and my family. Ali is someone I have known for many years and someone who I have shared the stage with,” Shafi said.
