Manto’s Family to Go to India for Biopic’s Release
The Nandita Das directed and written biopic based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s life and works, hits theaters on September 21st and the writer’s daughters Nusrat and Nuzhat will be in attendance for the release. The film in which Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the titular of the controversial and iconic Urdu writer has received much critical acclaim when it premiered at Cannes Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival.
Director Nandita said, “We are keeping our fingers crossed that the family of this great literary icon who is legacy of the whole Indian subcontinent will find the passage smooth.” While Manto’s daughter Nuzhat said that her eldest sister Nighat would not be able to attend. “We were all very young when he passed away as a broken-hearted man. But almost everyone who met and knew him have spoken of his love for Bombay where he began his literary journey.”
Nuzhat also spoke highly of Das and her intentions towards the film, “She is such a humble and loving person. She has met us and even came and stayed with us. We are confident that she has put together a great film and are excited to see it.”
