Korean Megahit Group BTS Dethrones Taylor Swift
The group released their latest album Love Yourself: Answer on August 24th and the music video for their single Idol took over the internet immediately. The music video is for the solo version, a remix version featuring American rapper Nicki Minaj also exists, and broke the record for the most watched music video in Youtube history with 56 million views in its first 24 hours. The record was previously held by pop phenomenon Taylor Swift for her hit single Look What You Made Me Do with 43.2 million views.
The Korean pop group is not new to setting records or breaking them as their last album Love Yourself: Tear, released just a few months ago, made history by being the first Korean album to debut at number 1 spot on Billboard 200 chart. The video fuses Korean culture with that of South African beats as well as dance moves. It also is the kind of song you write when you know you’re untouchable, and now they’ve got the numbers to back up the hype. The video currently holds 92+ million views on Youtube after only four days of being released. This proves that the BTS fandom, called “ARMY”, is nothing but loyal and dedicated.
