Indian Officials Keep Pushing for a Ban on Pakistani Artists

It seems that everyday the tensions between India and Pakistani artists keep increasing. Recently, the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) petitioned for a complete ban on Pakistani artists working in Bollywood. T P Aggarwal, who is the president of IMPPA, sent a strongly-worded letter to the Indian Prime Minister himself, Narendra Modi. The letter requests for the prime minister to think of the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives and to ban Pakistani artists.
This was not their first step towards stopping Pakistani actors from working in Bollywood, since a short while ago, IMPPA petitioned for stricter visa restrictions and to stop giving visas to Pakistanis wanting to visit India altogether.
“It is our request to the government of India to bar the work permits of all Pakistani artists working in different departments of the Indian film and music industry. Not only as entertainment professionals but also as Indians, we are immensely hurt by the rude behavior portrayed by Pakistani artists with regard to Pakistani terrorism.”
Earlier in the week, Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees requested for a ban on Pakistani TV channels showing Indian TV shows. After such vehement protest from the Indian side, Chaudhry Ejaz Kamran who is a high ranking official in the Pakistan Film Producers Association said, “The Indian showbiz industry stands united to bar Pakistani artists from working within Bollywood but it is a shame that even after this, Indian films are allowed to release in our country. The Pakistani government should consider the circumstances and put a ban on the release of Indian films in our cinemas so we can also spread a strong message amongst our people.”
With such strong opposition from India, it is our opinion that there should be at least a temporary boycott from our artists because they have their own industry that is happily waiting to employ them. Pakistani artists do not need the Indian industry rather it is them that cannot gain the high numbers at blockbuster without our talented actors and singers.
