How Much Did These Nike Shoes from ‘Back to the Future’ Movie Sold For?
A disintegrating Nike trainer worn by Michael J Fox in the Back to the Future sequel has sold for $92,100k. The left shoe, made for Fox in his role as Marty McFly, is part of the film’s pair of self-lacing Nike Air Mags. The 1989 sequel sees McFly and Dr Emmett “Doc” Brown travel to a futuristic 2015, where shoes have ‘power laces’.
The money will be donated to Fox’s Parkinson’s research charity, as he launched the foundation after being diagnosed with the disease himself in 1991. The trainer was part of a Nike employee’s personal collection and was in such fragile condition that it was only allowed to be sold in Portland, Oregon since it could not handle longer transportation.
The shoe managed to get 220 bids on eBay even in such a poor condition. Other than the iconic power laces, it also features blue-flecked foam sole, LED lights in the heel, and Nike logo that glows. Even though 1500 pairs of the shoe were produced in 2011, they did not have the power laces feature. They were commissioned to benefit Fox’s foundation.
