Google Features Pakistani Artist in Its Doodles for Women’s Day
On this Women’s Day, Google chose 12 interactive illustrations by women artists from countries like Mexico, US, Pakistan and Japan. The doodles represent a part of their lives and what inspires them. Women are complex creatures so they had to illustrate the moment o their lives that touched them or inspired them the most as a woman. Perla Campos, who is the product marketing manager at Google’s Doodles said, “This year, we wanted to bring forward unheard stories and voices, and to celebrate women’s collective experiences with all of their commonalities and differences. We want to shine a light on the important and far reaching impact of everyday women.”
One of the illustrations is by Saffa Khan, a Pakistani-British artist, titled “Homeland” which is a loving tribute to her home and roots.
Saffa Khan said that she wanted to express how her immigrant self feels about having to leave her home behind and how she misses it. It is very heartfelt and you can feel the artist’s longing and love for her home country. She feels that womanhood is a strong bond and that with each other’s support, women could accomplish and overcome anything.
“International Women’s Day is not only to celebrate numerous achievements of women across the fields of science, arts & humanities, but also to recognize the sacrifices & changes made by women as they fight for recognition & equality everyday in a society dominated by men.”
