Google Celebrates Birthday of the Legendary Nazia Hassan
The Princess of Pop would have been 53 years old today. The singer, social activist and lawyer was a huge icon that Pakistan will not see the likes of again. She became the voice of a generation not just through her songs Disco Deewane or Boom Boom but also by helping people as a social activist.
Google comes out with new doodles on different occasions and the birth of the South Asian Queen of Pop deserved nothing less. The company changed their doodle to one paying tribute to the late singer.
They also said in a statement, “When young Pakistani girls in the 1980s closed their eyes and clutched a pretend mic in their hands, swaying and singing, a major inspiration was Nazia Hassan. Hassan, sometimes referred to as the “Princess of Pop”, was a sensation the likes of which hadn’t been seen in the region in years. Young and graceful, with long flowing hair, she charmed the country by belting out favorite songs Disco Deewane and Boom Boom alongside her brother Zohaib.”
