Box Office: Arth vs Rangreza – open to shockingly low numbers!
We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking site Box Office Detail. However, until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. The numbers are also revised at times and hence you may observe fluctuations.
2017 was definitely not a good year for Pakistani Cinema as most of the films that released this year failed to impress the audiences and emerged as box office duds. Hopes were high that the last month of 2017 would be a success as two eagerly awaited films were hitting cinemas. On one side was Lollywood superstar Shaan Shahid’s directorial comeback ‘Arth’ which featured names such as Shaan himself, Humaima Malik, Mohib Mirza and Uzma Hassan, on the other hand, was Amir Mohiuddin’s ‘Rangreza’ which starred Bilal Ashraf, Urwa Hocane, and Gohar Rasheed.
But they say you cant predict what happens at the box office on Friday and boy was this Friday a shocker! Technically both the films opened with a limited release on Thursday so the damage had begun there itself, but it was expected that with the weekend kickstarting on Friday both the films would improve. However, no such thing happened and the tally for both the films for the first three days is a disappointment.
Rangreza has collected a total of 65 lakhs, in the first three days! Yes, that’s not a typo but the film actually has raked in this much in three days. Here is the day to day break down:
Thursday (Limited Release): 9 lakhs
Friday: 31 lakhs
Saturday: 25 lakhs
Total: 65 lakhs
As for Arth, no official numbers have been released by either the makers or our friends at Box Office Detail but sources have confirmed that the film has done only slightly better than Rangreza with numbers ranging somewhere between 75 lakhs to 1 crore, which for a film of Arth’s magnitude is depressing.
This has been one black weekend for our industry, let’s hope the coming days have better things in store for the films.Disclaimer:We do not allow users to post content which is copyright and We take strict actions against the users who post infringement content on our website.Although we do not host any content, users post embed videos from youtube, facebook, Dailymotion and Vimeo and are moderated before posting but we still take strict action against the copyright videos posted. If you are an official representative of any company whose videos are posted illegally on our website or you think some video infringe the copyright then you can simply send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
