87 year-old veteran actress Nargis Rabadi who was adoringly known as “Shammi Aunty” in Bollywood passed away in her home in Mumbai on 5th March. She had been working in the industry for around 60 years and had been sick during her last days. She was famous for appearing in movies and serials playing the roles of sweet grandmothers or other older members of the family.

Many Bollywood celebrities expressed their grievances over the news including Amitabh Bachchan who tweeted, “Shammi Aunty… Prolific actress, years of contribution to the industry, dear family friend… passes away. A long suffered illness, age… Sad… slowly slowly they all go away.” 

While his son, Abhishek Bachchan, had this to say: “I will really miss you Shammi Aunty… You always gave the warmest hugs and never failed to make everyone smile. So many memories, so much happiness, gone but not forgotten. Rest in peace.”

Farah Khan, Divya Dutta, Sandeep Khosla and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma are some of the people who stated their sadness over losing such an experienced and treasured actress of the Indian film industry.
