Arif Alvi Elected as Pakistan’s 13th President
After the electoral college of Pakistan, consisting of provincial, national and senate assemblies, cast their votes on Tuesday, Dr Arif Alvi pf Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf was elected as the 13th President of the country. Out of the 432 votes cast, Alvi secured 212 while the opposition Maulana Fazlur Rehman got 131 votes.
A secret voting ballot commenced at 10 am and ended by 4 pm. Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth counted the votes. After being elected, Dr Alvi thanked PM Imran Khan for choosing him and said, “I pray I get the chance to serve this post in its true spirit. Our government has a message of serving the masses. I am not the president of PTI alone, I am the president of all parties and all Pakistanis.”
“I am thankful to the nation and our workers and supporters. I will try to be the president of all parties. I am thankful to the independents and our partners in allied government.”
