It seems like a long time ago when women sued to feel safe using the ride hailing app Careem to travel wherever they needed to. Nowadays, more and more cases are being reported against the transportation service.

A new harassment case was reported on Facebook that took place in Karachi. A student of Iqra University was travelling to Kemari when the Careem Captain took her on a different route. He continued to drive her towards Shaukat Khanum Hospital in DHA even when she forcefully asked him to turn around.

Later on, he stopped the car and proceeded to brandish a knife-like weapon against her but thankfully she managed to escape to safety. The Captain continues to harass her by calling from different phone numbers. The girl’s friend posted the whole story on Facebook which spread like wildfire.

Recently, many women have been questioning the true safety of using the car service but this latest encounter seems to make the decision for us. We will definitely not be endangering ourselves or our family members or friends by using the service ever again. In a country where the safety of women is already a huge question mark, is it that far fetched to think they would not boycott a car service that has become famous for the number of harassment cases reported against it?
