Here are 12 ways you could help save water:
1. Turn off the taps:
Control your use of water. Don’t leave taps open and don’t let the water run. By turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, you save about 6 liters of water. Apply the same while doing domestic work, especially washing dishes.
2. Boil only what you need:
There’s no need to boil a lot of water. Boil water that is needed. This saves not only water but even energy and electricity.
3. Shower with less water:
Each shower uses up to 17 liters of water. Imagine the amount of wastage. Therefore, lessen your shower time and switch to an efficient shower head to help lather in less water.
4. Wash larger piles of laundry:
Believe it or not but washing more clothes together uses less water and electricity. So, not only you are saving water but also reducing your electricity bill.
5. Get a low-flush toilet:
The average household flushes about 5000 times a year. Modern flush systems save huge amounts of water. A normal flush uses about 13 liters of water whereas a modern flush system uses only up to 6 liters.
6. Steam your veggies:
Boiling your veggies not only saves you water but also retains the veggies nutrients. Even if you do plan on boiling your veggies, reuse the water as stock for further cooking.
7. Eat less meat:
Did you know that slaughtering animals for meat and dairy is incredibly water intensive? Lower your consumption of meat, you can reduce the use of water.
8. Reduce food waste:
It takes a lot of water to produce cereals, fruits, and other produce. Make sure you eat what you can consume and not throw or waste foods.
9. Time your gardening:
Water your plants in the morning or at the end of the day. This prevents from immediate evaporation of water.
10. Catch rainwater:
Save rainwater for gardening. Your plants will thank you for the natural water.
11. No more washing up:
Did you know that a dishwasher uses less water as compared to manually washing the dishes? Each time you run the dishwasher it still consumes less water.
12. Be plumbing prepared:
Regularly check the plumbing of your household. Make sure there is no leakage whatsoever that could waste water.
