The British Royal family is something that the world is very intrigued by. The fact that they are the most influential and powerful of all royal families may even have something to do with it. The British royal family consists of many old traditions and customs that mean they have to watch what they eat, how to dress or how to talk.
1. Monopoly is forbidden
Apparently, the royal family is against this fun board game. Maybe because the idea of acquiring money and property is a bit too realistic for them.
2. Garlic isn’t allowed inside the Buckingham Palace
According to royal chefs who previously worked in the palace, the Queen does not like garlic. The use of garlic is prohibited inside the Buckingham palace kitchens as well as too much onions.
3. Tiaras after 6
At any public event, royal ladies are supposed to wear tiaras after 6 pm and take off the extravagant hats that royals are famous for. In the olden days, this practice showed that a woman was off limits and married as well as of high status.
4. The Queen’s handbag
The Queen’s most notable accessory is her handbag which she is never seen without. The handbag is for more than just carrying things, however, as it is also used as a code or signal from the Queen. For example, if she puts it on the table at a dinner then it means she wants the meeting to end in five minutes.
5. You stop eating when the Queen does
When it comes to dining with Queen Elizabeth, there probably a hundred rules to follow but the most talked about one is that when the Queen stops eating, you do too. No matter how hungry you are or how delicious that tart looks.
6. The Queen has two birthdays
The Queen’s actual birthday falls on 21st of April which she celebrates privately with family and close friends. Then her other birthday is celebrated in the Commonwealth of Nations on varying dates which includes parades and major celebrations.
7. You can’t touch them
People who are not royalty cannot touch any of the royals. This fact is quite known but the only people who break it and get away with it are celebrity and influential personalities.
8. They cannot deny a gift
All of the royal family members are supposed to accept every gift given to them by the public. Then the Queen can do whatever she wants with it since they then belong to the Monarchy.
9. The Queen travels without a passport
Queen Elizabeth is the only royal who can travel without a passport. She can just present a bank not with her face on it but even that is not needed.
10. The Queen drives without a license
Queen Elizabeth is the only person in the UK who can drive without a license which she does. She also does not have to wear a seat-belt if she doesn’t want to.
