Frozen Baby Snake Fossil is a Window Into the Past
A recent discovery has unearthed the fossil of a baby snake frozen in amber. The snake has been entombed since dinosaurs roamed the earth, around 99 million years ago. The discovery was made in what is known as Myanmar now.
According to experts, this fossil is extremely rare. “This is the very first baby snake fossil that we have ever found,” Prof Michael Caldwell of the University of Alberta in Canada said. This what they imagine the snake to have looked like while it was alive all those years ago:
Another fossil of a bigger snake was discovered but it remains to be seen if it is the same species or not. The animal became stuck in tree sap, a sticky substance that can preserve skin, scales, fur, feathers or even whole creatures.
