David Beckham gets a driving ban
David Beckham has been given a six months driving ban. The former footballer was spotted by a member of public using his phone whole driving on 1st November last year. He pleaded guilty. Beckham was originally to be dealt with using the new single justice procedure, an administrative process not open to press or public.
A member of the court staff present at the last hearing said ” The magistrates requested more information, either the circumstances in which it happened or they think they don’t have enough information about the charge to make an informed decision”.
Beckham sent his plea in by post under SJP, which is intended to free up court time, by dealing low level offences to be sentenced quickly (as this was not a prison warrant case) However the court did not go in his favour. The star was previously criticized for avoiding prosecution for a speeding charge. He dodged the offence but was charged in this case.
