Asim Abbasi’s “Cake” Shows Real Pakistani Family Dynamics
The official trailer for Asim Abbasi’s movie “Cake”, starring Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik, recently released. The first look shows the two protagonists, Sheikh and Saeed, as estranged sisters who come together in the wake of their father’s sickness. The movie portrays a Pakistani family that is very close to reality and completely relatable. People who are used to seeing Pakistani dramas showcase women as soft, mute and weak creatures will be in for a pleasant surprise.
The movie shows a family that is flawed but that’s the beauty of Pakistani families, we all have our flaws but we are still strong as a unit. If the sight of women smoking, being candid with each other with a little bit of swearing thrown in, makes you uncomfortable then you may not want to watch it. The premise is family and how we all have our personal issues with each other yet we come together in the end to face problems as one.
It is high time that we started representing the real face of Pakistan in our movies and dramas which is why this is a good step. Complex characters, strong women, and the candid culture of Pakistan is prevalent in the trailer. We think this movie definitely deserves a chance to be seen in cinemas when it releases. What are your thoughts about the portrayal of Pakistani families in a movie like this?
